Description:
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1937. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's pale blue boards with black lettering. Very slight darkening to the spine and the peripheries of the boards. There are several foxing spots to the page edges and the early/late pages of the book. Overall a solid VG copy. In the VERY RARE D/W which is priced 7/6 net to the spine (as called for). The D/W has no loss but has some age-darkening to the white spine panel and along rear flap fold, and dust soiling to rear panel. Being hyper-critical there are 3 short edge tears and associated creases. A very shelvable copy of Eric Ambler's most uncommon book, his second novel. Rare. Scans invited.

Description:
London: Gollancz, 1928. Hard Cover. First UK Edition Thus. Publisher's black boards with red lettering to the spine. About VG with edges of text block browned penetrating into the book in a few places. Base of spine lightly frayed else quite firm and presentable. Nicer than it sounds. Recently reissued by Tartarus Press. Uncommon. "That rare thing - a truly gruesome and uncanny tale" - Gerald Gould (The Observer). So macabre are Robbins' plot and characters (three carnival misfits seek revenge on mankind by forming a murder and theft ring) that they inspired Todd Browning and Lon Chaney to film this book as a movie, not once, but twice in 1925 and 1930.
