Description:
From 1978 to 1981, Time-Life Books published a series called 'The Seafarers'. It was 22 volumes, all written by experts in their fields, on different aspects of maritime history.
All are 175-185 pages, all bound in thick black leatherette, all beautifully illustrated with drawings, paintings and photographs.
Of the 22, I have 11 left (the list is below). All are listed here on Biblio. You can buy one, or as many as you like.
Mine are from the first printing. Unless otherwise noted, all are in mint condition.
This one is 'The U-Boats'. It reviews the history of Germany's foremost naval weapon in two world wars, documenting its victories, which include the sinking of 8,000 merchant ships, and its final defeat.
Condition: Mint.
From the series, I have:
- The Clipper Ships
- The Explorers
- Fighting Sail
- The Frigates
- The Men-of-War

Description:
Under Milk Wood, A Play for Voices, is a 1954 radio drama by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914-1953). It was first commissioned by the BBC, and then adapted for the stage. It has also been filmed twice.
In it, a narrator invites the audience to listen to the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of the fictional small Welsh fishing village, Llareggub. They include Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly nagging her two dead husbands; Captain Cat, reliving his seafaring times; the two Mrs. Dai Breads; Organ Morgan, obsessed with his music; and Polly Garter, pining for her dead lover. It is lyrical, impassioned and funny.
The Folio Society first published it in 1972, then reprinted it in 1997. This is a copy of the 1997 printing.
It is a slim, pretty book, just 93 pages. The whole book is purple, cream and black, with original custom lithographs, done in purple and black, by the Welsh painter Ceri Richards.
It comes in a pale gray slipcase. Lovely thick paper.
Uncracked spine; when I opened it to… Read More

Description:
This is a pristine copy of Uncle Remus: His Songs and His Sayings, a collection of African American folktales compiled and adapted by Joel Chandler Harris and published in book form in 1881. Harris was a journalist in post-Reconstruction Atlanta, and he produced seven Uncle Remus books. He wrote these stories to represent the struggle in the Southern US, and more specifically in the plantations. He did so by introducing tales that he had heard and framing them in the plantation context. He wrote his stories in a dialect which was his interpretation of Deep South African-American language of the time. Uncle Remus is the fictional narrator; Br'er Rabbit is the main character.
This is a copy of the Heritage Club edition, published in 1957.
158 pages, heavily illustrated with woodcuts by the American artist Seong Moy (1921-2013). In a slipcase/box.
This book does not appear to have been read. There is not a mark in it or on it.
It's in mint condition.
