Original Cloth, in dust-wrapper, black cloth slipcase a trifle dusty, overall in lovely state. DELUXE ISSUE, LIMITED TO 200 COPIES WITH A SIGNED WEBER PHOTOGRAPH, AND PRESERVED IN A FITTED CASE. THIS COPY BEARS A SECOND PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER on the title-page. From the Introduction by Ben Lifson: "Matt Weber began photographing seriously in 1984, at the age of twenty-six, while driving a New York City taxi cab. At first he was hoping only to capture some of the startling things he would see over the course of his long shifts, but gradually photography became his passion and then his art, and he was photographing from the driver's street while stalled in traffic and waiting at read lights. When he left taxi driving in 1990 he began his current practice of photographing while walking in Manhattan on other… Read more

Description:
Washington DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1923. Hardcover. Very good. 8vo. 563, [1] pp. Profusely illustrated with 50 plates and 24 text figures. Original green cloth, blocked in black with illustration of a bull's head on front cover. Strange U.S. Government production illustrating, with alarming realism, the diseases of cattle. This is the finest copy we have ever seen, unmarked and clearly unread. Contains highly curious illustrations, some in color, created by a now-forgotten U.S. Government artist. It would appear that fine copies of this book are now rare. Must be seen to be fully appreciated.

Description:
Very Good. Large original silver print (345 x 268 mm). Signed "T.S. Holden (c)." On stiff paper with a slightly yellowed back. Residue of hanging material on back at the top of the print, small stains along edges, pencil inscription on back. Preserved in a mylar L-sleeve with lig-free card backing. In every way a remarkable photograph, the luminous silver and black both reflect and absorb light, with eerie effect. The name of this outstanding "amateur" photographer is T.S. Holden, as we learn from the signature on the lower right hand corner of the silver print. No further information about him or her has been forthcoming. However that may be, we are struck by this haunting, even melancholic scene, portraying a bare and somewhat desolate (winter?) landscape. Although silver prints are highly susceptible to deterioration due to the oxidation of the silver, our photograph survives in remarkable condition. The gelatin silver photographic process was first developed by Richard Leach Maddox in 1871, with… Read more
