Anstey is the pseudonym of Thomas Anstey Guthrie (the pseudonym was meant to be T. Anstey, but the printers put F. by mistake and it stuck). Vice Versa, published the year before was highly successful and, as far as I can tell, the first body-swap story. A comedy, with a wonderful legacy - including Freaky Friday! Guthrie authorised an adaptation by Edward Rose, of which the present copy is one of those published. Additionally, the present copy has a letter glued in from Guthrie to Horace Pym (the present copy came from the auction of Pym's collection in 1996). Collects six short pieces: The Reformer, Sarah Ann, Underground Workers, Dorothy, Making the Empire, and Among the Sand Dunes. In excellent shape with a little creasing to the spine, as printed, but also a little worn there too. One gathering a little pulled. Otherwise just fairly trivial edge wear. [11133, Hyraxia Books]. . Vellum-bound unlike the regular cloth issue. Condition is very good; vellum rubbed and a touch soiled though gilt remains bright, some soiling. Front hinge pulled with webbing showing. Plate, tissueguard and title page a touch foxed. Bleiler has it as Supernatural / Raising the Dead [Bleiler, p87], though Locke disagrees noting the absence of text indicating such a them. Titles include Robinson Crusoe, The True Story of Lucien, Gulliver's Travels, Nicolas Klimius, and Apuleius' Metamorphoses. A fantastic collection. The set is pretty well preserved. I admit, I haven't collated it, but I have checked for plates and there appear to be some missing. Handwritten labels to the spines, and the wraps are all about an inch too short.
