Description:
London: Arthur Pearson. London, Arthur Pearson, 1898. Limited Edition. Presentation copy. Inscribed by the author to the publisher. Front free endpaper bears Pearson's inscription, locating it in his library. Half-title bears the author's inscription 'Cyril Arthur Pearson \ from \ George Griffith \ 1898'. Vellum-bound unlike the regular cloth issue. Condition is very good; vellum rubbed and a touch soiled though gilt remains bright, some soiling. Front hinge pulled with webbing showing. Plate, tissueguard and title page a touch foxed. Bleiler has it as Supernatural / Raising the Dead [Bleiler, p87], though Locke disagrees noting the absence of text indicating such a them. Locke has it as a straight-forward historical adventure, albeit for a mythical place - the author's first 'serious' work [Locke, p98, vol I]. [5976, Hyraxia Books]. . Very Good. Hardback. Limited Edition. 1898.

Description:
London: Methuen. London, Methuen, 1920. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Lacking the jacket. Currey's binding A, issue A. Being the earliest issue of the book (gilt stamped spine, undated ads), one of c600 copies out of 1250. A rare work of fantasy, will elements of science fiction. Highly regarded and influential, undoubtedly a highlight of speculative fiction collecting. An influence on both Tolkien and Lewis (Sayer, p153: Humphrey, p) [Bleiler, p124 as Occult, Extraterrestrial Cultures and allegory] Ex-libris plate of Percival Hinton, Phillpotts bibliographer, so presumably his copy. Spine faded, spine tips and corners bumped and softened. Top edge a little dusty. Owner's stamp to front endpaper. [Manlove, p4; Cawthorn & Moorcock, p71; Roberts, p164; Barron, 2:72] [7862, Hyraxia Books]. . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1920.
