Description:
The sole UK printing published by Philip Allan & Company, London in 1925. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Original blue buckram-backed paper-covered boards, with title label pasted to the front board and to the spine. Decorative endpapers and end-piece, decorated contents page, 32 tipped-in black-and-white plates reproducing pen-and-ink drawings and watercolours by Stephen Tennant. The spine label is mildly toned. Some slight splitting between pages as is usual with this binding but to a much lesser degree than usually encountered. The inner hinge of rear board is just starting to split at the base. Internally fresh with no inscriptions and just light toning and spotting to the page edges. The WRAPPER is complete and is Very Good+ condition. Some light shelf wear, ruffled along top edge with a short 3cm tear to the front top edge and slight loss at the spine ends. Some light toning to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. Some rubbing to the folds and spine ends. Light toning to the spine with some mild fading of the red lettering. Light edge wear with a few small rubs in places. The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Description:
The First UK printing published by Hamish Hamilton in 1970. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends with a very tiny loss of laminate at the rear upper spine fold. Free from inscriptions. Very slight toning to the page edges. The WRAPPER is price-clipped and is in Very Good- condition. Some loss to the upper spine end and less so the lower spine end. Mild edge-wear with nicks and creasing. A 5 cm closed tear to the lower front edge and a larger closed tear with loss and creasing to the rear lower edge. Some tape remnants to the latter which has come through to the front panel. There is also a tape remnant to a closed tear to the upper front panel which has come through to the front . The wrapper is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. A very attractive copy of the iconic children's title title more-so with the very elusive wrapper. Collectible. The sole UK printing privately printed for Douglas Cleverdon in 1934. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Small quarto, original full tan morocco with just some light age related markings. Top edge gilt others uncut . The Signed limited first edition, this being number '9' of only 303 copies signed and numbered by Sassoon on the colophon. These 22 poems 'were engraved on copper by Charles Sigrist, and printed May, 1934. The frontispiece was designed and engraved by Stephen Gooden.' After production of this limited edition, the plates were destroyed. The book is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. Loosely inserted is the 4 page Publisher's Prospectus / 'Proposal' which is in Very Good++ condition with just a mild horizontal crease to the lower half and little offsetting to the rear plain cover. The sole UK printing privately printed for Douglas Cleverdon in 1934. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Small quarto, original half rust cloth, uncut. Top edge gilt. Some splaying of the boards. Signed limited first edition, this being number 268 of only 303 copies signed and numbered by Sassoon on the colophon. This copy is one of 66 reserved presentation copies and additionally inscribed by Sassoon to the second bank end-paper with his characteristic interlocked double-S initials : 'O.S from S.S, these engraved gravities'. The recipient was the author (Sir) Osbert Sitwell. Osbert Sitwell had been introduced to Sassoon through their mutual friend Robbie Ross.
