I'd have graded this rather higher as it is a solid, lightly used, newish copy, but it has a notable marking problem. Specifically, it has neat occasional, underlining in ultra thin blue ballpoint, usually 3 or 4 word passages with an occasional check mark at the margin. It is worth noting that the marking is quite minimally done and therefore subtle in effect. Text crisp, boards clean, trace bumping front lower, binding tight. Book is downright handsome, heavily patterned wine colored boards, text unmarked. Text has bit of mild swale, surely as made, no evidence of any atmospheric dampness at all. Gilt lettering is perfect. Jacket has much edgewear, 1/2" tear/chip back, other fairly minor chips and abrasions. Frankly, the sheet looked utterly untouched on my 1st glance. This one does not match SMs 1st id according to my reference. HOWEVER it does not match for later printing either. . .Let us say this, jacket is priced and no later printings are shown. Jacket has abrasion issue back panel, perhaps the size of a postage stamp. Book has deckle foredge, half bound in red cloth (spine0 balance beige.

Book has gilt lettering on front board, which is bright; gilt on spine is somewhat faded. Gilt top edge of text is also bright. Spine is discolored and has wear, as do corners of boards, and there is staining along the upper edge of the front board, and a few small stains on back board. Interior is clean and unmarked, and binding is tight. Pages have darkened with age.
