London: [Thomas Rodd], 1843. 16pp, disbound from a volume at some point, t.e.g. Slightly browned, one or two spots of foxing, but generally clean. Wise notes that "In 1843, when advertising the present pamphlet for sale, Rodd asserted that it was a facsimile reprint of an alleged original edition of which the author was said to have printed twenty copies in 1816. No example of this mysterious original has ever been unearthed ... My own opinion is that no original ever existed ... The motto 'We pity the plumage but forget the dying bird' was taken by Shelley from Paine's 'Rights of Man', 1817, Pt.I, p. 24, 'He [Burke] pities the plumage but forgets the dying bird'. This clearly denies any impression of the address dated 1816". Will of William, a plasterer from Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire, leaving bequests to educate poor children of Kidlington (twenty pounds), Cassington (twenty pounds), Eynsham (twenty pounds), Standlake (thirty pounds) and Stanton Harcourt (thirty pounds). He enjoins the trustees of his will 'to take care of the six score pounds given to ye poor children of the five towns be carefully sett forth and I do give them one whole yeare's interest of the six score pounds next after my decease'. Spines slightly faded, very minor rubbing to extremities, light foxing to endpapers and engraved portrait, occasional spotting to margins, but generally quite bright and clean. Very minor rubbing to extremities, internally some light browning and spotting but generally fairly clean. Previous owners bookplate to front pastedown, with another previous owners name to head of title, engraved frontispiece. Binding is J[ohn] Clarke, with his stamp to reverse of front marbled endpaper, who was described by Ramsden as "one of the best and most prolific of the London binders of the period". Wing T422. London: James Wyld, 1857. iv, 114pp. Wyld's map of India, coloured, dissected and mounted on linen, with index, bound as a book, marbled endpapers. Small map of the world as a frontispiece and a smaller map of the India bound after the advertisement leaves. The map of India itself measures 695mm x 990mm. Extremities rubbed, spine worn. Endpapers and ffeps with newspaper cuttings about India pasted down. Map very lightly browned, a couple of minor abrasions and creases, but generally in good order. First issued in 1841, this is dated 1857, documenting British East India Company control over India, and showing distances between cities, as well as the growth of the railway.
