William Gostling is described as a 'native of the place' and minor Canon of the Cathedral. ix, 402pp plus index 16pp. 24 engraved plates all as called for, one of which is a fine folding map of of the city. Modern library binding with library plate to front pastedown. Small stamp to the reverse of title otherwise clean and very good throughout.

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Co Undated circa 1840. Sheet size 425x345mm, mounted on linen, all folds good. Small worm infestation affecting cover, inside cover and first fold of map, but so small as to be not serious.

London: Orr & Co., 1851 xii, 264pp plus index and publishers lists. 44 instructional plates together with numerous decorative vignettes. Decorative gilt spine with blind stamped boards. An unusual early book extolling the virtues of exercise, so nothing is new, but only for men!

London: Longman, Orme, Rees & Co., 1839 Sheet size 345x415mm. Mounted on linen, all folds good. Some light ageing otherwise very good.

London: Methuen, 1900 The seven Walker brothers, their contribution to cricket and the Southgate Cricket Club. 439pp with black and white plates plus publishers list. A really crisp and clean copy.

London: J.Bucklang et al, 1775 To which is added various pieces in prose and verse with a map of the roads to happiness and misery.
145pp with an engraved frontis.. Lacks the map which may be providential because many of the roads lead to hell.
Recent full calf binding.

London: Sherwood, Nely and Jones, 1819 To which is prefixed a copious travelling guide exhibiting the direct and principal crossroads, Inns, distances of stages and noblemen and gentlemen's seats. 324pp, lacking 301/2. Eleven plates drawn and engraved by Mr Deeble, lacking nine. Folding map of Kent to ftontis. Ex private lending library. Cover boards show signs of wear, spine reinforced at some time.

Derby: Breedon Books, 2001 Carefully researched, all these walks begin and end at an Underground station or bus stop. Each takes the walker through the East Ends dense and surprising history. 168pp, well illustrated. Will also appeal to the armchair walker.

London: Country Life & George Newnes A handsome book and a wealth of information on the subject. Undated circa 1920's. 177 pages with random light foxing. Monochrome plates throughout. Small closed tear to title page. Spine and edges sunned.

London: Nicholson & Watson, 1942 An unlikely hero in an adventure that ends happily for Wallace and his family. The illustrator was stretched as well as Wallace.

An unusual book and scarce

London and Glasgow: The Sunshine Press Undated circa 1940's. Donald Duck and Goofy Went riding on a bus; Sitting in the driving seat was Donald's Cousin Gus. He drove up to the Dining Rooms and said "I'm going to dine!" He's in there still and won't come out till 1999! The crossword completed in pencil otherwise internally clean. Spine is strong but lacks paper covering. Corners and edges rubbed.

London: James Blackwood, 1855 A book of exploration as well as of fishing. The author states that "For the right orthography of the names of some of the Sutherland Lakes, I cannot vouch, as it is extremely difficult - perhaps I may say impossible, to determine how their Gaelic appellation should be spelt."

Herne Bay Press, 1961 The walks described in this book appeared originally in the Herne bay Press during the period, August 1959 - August 1960. 94pp with black and white halftones.

London: John Hamilton The German and Bulgarian experience of First World War aviation in Macedonia. Translated from the German. 196pp with black and white plates and a folding map. Covers lightly soiled contents clean.

London: A&C Black, 1903 Returning from the Boer War with a portfolio of his water colour sketches Mortimer Menpes, together with Carl Hentschel, a process engraver and pioneer of the three colour process persuaded A&C Black to publish in 1901 the first in what became known as the A&C Black colour book 20/- series. The size of this first title was 216x153mm but the standard size for the series was quickly established as 228x159mm to which the second printing in 1903 conforms. 92 titles were published in the 20/- series and many collectors like to have both sizes to achieve the complete run.
