Harmony Books. New York. 1995. First Edition stated; First Printing ("1" in number line on copyright page). 283 pages plus 4 pages of tables/charts at end. The blue covers and black spine are in very good plus condition. The only issues are a tiny tear in the cloth at the top of the spine and faint scuffing near the bottom. The title and author are in silver color on the spine. The binding is solid. The dust jacket is in very good condition; there is some fraying along the top edge and small creasing at the bottom of the spine. The dust jacket is bright and attractive. The interior of the book is in near fine condition. It is clean and bright with no writing or makings detected. The book appears to be unread. This is a very nice copy of the book that was awarded the John Burroughs Medal for Nature Writing in 1996.

Sierra Club. 1961. 204 pages. Covers are light tan with brown spine in very good condition. Interior is very clean and bright. There are no markings inside. There is some spotting along the outside top edge of the pages, but this is not visible from the interior of the book. There are 26 beautiful black and white photographs by Philip Hyde. The book includes writings by Ansel Adams, Sigurd Olson and Joseph Wood Krutch. The dust jacket is bright, but does include several small tears (less than 1 in.) along the edges and one larger tear (approx. 1 3/4 in.) on front bottom. The dust jacket is protected by a clear Mylar cover.

The authors name and title in black on spine. The dust jacket is faded and moderately toned, especially along the margins. The dust jacket is intact with no significant loss, except that it is price-clipped. The back includes a photograph of the author and the World Wildlife Fund Gold Medal for Conservation that she received in 1974. The dust jacket is in a clear Mylar protective cover. The binding is firm, but the hinge for the back cover is a bit loose. The interior of the book is very good plus. The pages are clean and bright. There is no writing or marking. The book includes many black/white photographs taken in the Adirondacks. The book itself is a very nice copy of a first printing with a just good dust jacket that continues to protect it. 277 pages.
