Given at Our Court at Windsor Castle, 5 August 1712. 14 x 9 inches, folds, in good clean condition, Treasury stamps, a few minor marginal tears only. Queen Anne (reigned 1702-1714). Sir Matthew Decker (1680-1749), merchant, wrote two important tracts, Serious Considerations (1743) and An Essay on the Causes of the Decline in Foreigh Trade (1744). He was a strong supporter of the doctrine of free trade, and as such was an important forerunner of Adam Smith. Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford (1661-1724), statesman.

Given at Our Court at Windsor, 25 May 1827. 2 pp. 14 x 9 inches, folded, Royal wafer seal affixed, with an integral leaf addressed to Sir Henry Warde, Governor and Commander in Chief of the Island of Barbados, marked Duplicate (documents were sent overseas in duplicate, in case of loss at sea). A fine original Warrant signed by the Prince Regent [later King George IV (reigned 1820-1830)]. William Huskisson (1770-1830), statesman, the first man to be killed by a steam locomotive, was run down, ‘seeming like a man bewildered’, by the engine Rocket at the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester railway. James Dottin Maycock M.D.(d.1837) was the compiler of Flora Barbadensis: a catalogue of plants, indigenous, naturalized, and cultivated, in Barbados : to which is prefixed, a geological description of the Island (1830).

Given at Our Court at Carlton House, 23 February 1816. 2 pp. 14 x 9 inches, in good condition, folds. Treasury stamp for one pound, ten shillings. Signed by the Prince Regent [later King George IV (reigned 1820-1830)]. He signed as Prince Regent during the periods of illness suffered by his father, King George III (reigned 1760-1820).

The King’s House, Colombo [Ceylon], 1 November 1805. Local printing, completed in manuscript. 12½ x 8 inches, some light stains, tracing of mounting. Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Maitland (1759–1824), Governor of Ceylon (1805-1811), where he built the Governor’s mansion at Mount Lavinia. Maitland was appointed as Governor of Malta on 23 July 1813, when the island became a crown colony instead of a protectorate. While he was Governor of Malta, Maitland also served as Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian islands during 1815 to 1823, while the islands were a British protectorate.
