Description:
Handwritten. Good. No Binding. Wrath of the Women. War of religious factions at Stonington. Females with axes and sledgehammers take possession of Wequetequock Meeting House. Stonington Nov 25. Fascinating 1883 manuscript account of the War of the Women, a legendary brawl amongst the leading families of Stonington over the use of the Wequetequock schoolhouse. Written as a newspaper article (of which I could not identify a published version); based on the substitution of "Mecca of" for "home of" I surmise this is an original composition and not a transcription. Discovered in an uncommon book of gospel songs: "Windows of Heaven. Hymns New and Old. H. M. Wharton and I. S. Field. Baltimore: National Evangelization Society 1895". The book also contains several other items of ephemera, including a manuscript poem. Based on names written in these items, and comparison with the handwriting in the manuscript, I can identify the author as Mrs. Lucy A. (Brown) Ryon of…

Poster. Good. No Binding. April 18, 1974. --VINTAGE, ORIGINAL FBI FLYER #474-- issued for (3) Symbionese Liberation Army members: Patricia Soltysik, Camilla Hall and Nancy Ling Perry, charged with armed bank robbery and murder. Soltysik, Hall and Perry would be killed in a California shootout, May 17,1974, just one month after the FBI poster's release. In March 1973, career criminal and prison escapee Donald DeFreeze became the leader of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), an American revolutionary group that operated in California in the mid-1970s. DeFreeze had been radicalized in prison and embraced a loose Marxism as a code for revolution. After his escape, DeFreeze hid out in Patricia Soltysik's house, who was unknown to the police at the time, and they became lovers. The SLA gained national notoriety in Nov. 1974, after DeFreeze ordered Patricia Soltysik and Emily Harris to murder Marcus Foster, the black Superintendent of Schools in Oakland, CA. The SLA also famously kidnapped…

A Democrat, he helped lead Oklahoma to statehood in 1907, served as the state's first Speaker of the House, was elected to the national House of Representatives, then served as Governor from 1931-35. At that time cultural bias, & racial caricatures were ubiquitous hence Murray believes... "The Negro has very little book learning, but he has wonderful practical sense.
