A full-length portrait of Washington in uniform with a field glass in his right hand and his left hand resting on the hilt of his sword; there are a palm tree, a soldier, and a horse in the background. This is a rare print--Baker only saw one example while researching his monumental study of Washington portraits. The print is an excellent impression on reasonably clean paper, with some slight bleed-through from a 2-inch long stain on the verso that is limited to the white area near Washington's right arm.. A pictorial history of the World War II 331st Infantry Regiment of the 83rd Division of the United States Army from D-Day through V-E Day. Undated, but the use of a Munich printer suggests that the book was published in 1945. The book is in about good condition: still tightly bound, with short splits along the joints at foot of the spine. Internally it is reasonably clean, though there is some foxing and soiling of endpapers; most pages have water stains and minor rippling in the top margin.. First Edition. Hardcover. The burlap cloth covered book is clean, tight, and fresh, with barely a hint of the spine toning that is usually seen on this edition. The glassine dust jacket is not present, but the original slipcase is present. London: William S. Orr & Co., 1848. This is not a complete book--it is a single sheet containing an original antique hand-colored botanical print. Joseph Paxton was perhaps the most significant 19th century English botanist, the designer of the famed Crystal Palace, and the editor of Paxton's Magazine of Botany and Register of Flowering Plants. This print is from the 14th volume of that magazine, published in 1848. Drawn and lithographed by Samuel Holden, it is a superb brilliantly-colored example of the flowers in the magazine. The lithograph is accompanied by the original text pages explaining the origin, cultivation, and uses of the flower. Image size of the engraving is 9 1/2 inches by 14 3/8 inches on a sheet of laid paper that measures 10 7/8 inches by17 5/8 inches. The first printing of what is considered to be the best account of the uprising by Catholics in southwestern England that was precipitated by enforcement of religious changes of the Protestant Reformation, including publication of the Book of Common Prayer in 1549. The rebellion was put down within 2 months, and its leaders were executed.
