Description:
Portland, OR: Don Unrau, 2014. First printing. (23) pp., 16 x 20 inches. Twenty archival digital photographs and text printed by the photographer, housed in cloth-covered folding case constructed by Emily García of Cathemeral Press, in a signed and numbered edition of twenty copies. As new. Vietnam veteran Don Unrau began working on these extended portraits of twenty of his fellow veterans in 1984, inviting each of the subjects to write a text of any length to be printed along with the image, completing them in 1989 while an artist in residence at Light Work in Syracuse, New York. The images were exhibited in various venues, and some were published in periodicals; finally, more than twenty years later, he decided to publish the complete images and texts in this portfolio format. By adapting the capability of contemporary fine art inkjet printers to deploy dozens of colors, and using black and grey values in their place (as well as through his choice of papers), Don was able to achieve a striking… Read more

Jersey City, NJ: Conveyor Editions, 2019. First printing. (124) pp., 8 x 10.5 inches. Printed paper over boards without dust-jacket, as issued. Published in a limited edition of 500 copies. Illustrated throughout in color and duotone, with text by the artists and an essay by Elizabeth Kolbert. New. The artist duo of Sayler and Morris produce work about ecological issues, much of it under the aegis of the Canary Project. In this richly textured artistÂ’s book, they bring archival and historical research together with contemporary photographs in a revelatory portrait of a river. From the publisherÂ’s web site: “Water Gold Soil: The American River tells the story of a single flow of water in present-day California from origin to end use. Beginning at the riverÂ’s headwaters in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the book follows the water through pipes and dams, past SutterÂ’s Mill and the birthplace of the Gold Rush, to the corporate agricultural fields until it eventually disappears into the ground,… Read more

Description:
New York: Viking Press, 1965. First printing. 78 pp., 9.25 x 7.75 inches. Cloth in illustrated dust-jacket. A very fine copy, a trifle dusty on the top edge, with the very slight toning of pages present in virtually all copies, in a sparkling, near fine jacket that has trivial touches of wear at the corners, minuscule chips at the top of the spine, and a couple of mild creases along the edges. Levitt's first book, a classic collection of more than fifty of her New York City street photographs, mostly of children and their games and chalk drawings, shot in the 1940s and printed beautifully in gravure, with an essay by James Agee, written in the late 1940s when the book was first planned, but left unpublished at his death in 1955. Cited in all major reference guides to photobooks, including “The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century” by Andrew Roth, “The Photobook: A History” by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, and “The Open Book” by Andrew Roth.
