The discovery of the chemical basis of life--DNA--by Perutz and others is yet another of the important sequels to the Bragg experiments. The Braggs were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1915. (Printing and the Mind of Man No. 406.) Ink inscription: "E. V. Appleton St. John's College Cambridge." This is the signature of Edward Victor Appleton, who did postgraduate work in crystallography under William Henry Bragg at St. John's College in Cambridge.
