Head handmade paper with four sample sheets from other Heavenly Monkey publications and with original calligraphy on the title page by Francesca Lohmann; it is signed on the colophon by the author. The regular edition of eighty-five copies was printed on Somerset book paper and bound in vine-patterned boards and does not contain the samples or the calligraphy. Finely bound by Sarah Creighton in full black leather with a vine pattern stamped in gilt issued in a maroon cloth folding box with gilt-lettered black leather spine label. . Miniature book (2.25" x 2.75"). Title page in black and red. A fine copy. With three small cyanotype prints (photographed by Carolee Campbell), bordered in navy, and mounted on printed gold rectangles. The prints were sensitized by hand and printed on Velke Losiny paper by Campbell. Bath: Printed by C. Pope…and sold by A. Millar… 1762 First edition. Early nineteenth-century calf over marbled boards, rubbed. . Octavo. Front joint cracking, but sound. Old ownership inscription on title-page, partially cropped at top margin in the process of binding. A very good copy. Sarah Fielding (1710-68) was the sister of Henry Fielding and a friend of Samuel Richardson and of Jane Collier. She was the author of several novels, the best-known of which is The Adventures of David Simple, a Moral Romance (1744). She was "…one of the earliest of the English novelists to explore with close attention varying states of feeling and the roots of motive" (Oxford Companion to English Literature). She was a woman of considerable learning, and her translation of Xenophon is highly regarded. The D.N.B. notes that it includes some notes and possibly a revision by James Harris of Salisbury (the author of Hermes).
