On a front free end paper it has a bookseller stamp, an owner's paste down and the same owner's name and address, otherwise it is unmarked. It is illustrated throughout with black and white photos and drawings. Some of the drawings use red as contrast. The boards are white cloth with gold titles on the front and on spine. The front board is dominated by a large photo of a yacht on a paste down. there is light staining around the edge of the rear board and the last page has a chip and has had a closed tear repaied with tape.

There is a small date on the rear paste down and a book plate on the front indicating this copy is from the collection of Harry Bacon Collamore (see below - most of his collection ended up at Trinity College). It is lightly bumped/rubbed, noticeable at the ends of the spine and tips of the corners. There is a small indentation (insect?) and the very bottom edge of the first pages. There is faint damp stain at the edge of the first few and last few pages. It has 191 pages, many remain unopened. This is generally accepted as Sinclair Lewis' first published works.
