Some light spotting, mostly to prelims, occasional marking to the text-block, with an ink smear to p.66. Some marking and wear to the cloth, all told a sound copy, with a warm tipped-in inscription from the author.

In publisher's green cloth with elaborate silver titles and decoration to spine and upper board. Green patterned endpapers. Heavily browned paper stock; slight reading lean. Very good indeed.

Full green calf, gilt titles on red morocco label to spine, gilt decorations to spine, raised bands, gilt ruling to boards, blind embossed dentelle to turn ins, Turkish marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Twenty-one illustrations including frontispiece. Black ink ownership inscription to front flyleaf. Some spotting internally, more so first few leaves. Toning to top edge and spine, minor wear to upper spine and hinges. Very good.

London: Picador, 2015. [Modern Literature] SIGNED FIRST EDITION. Octavo (24 x 16cm), pp.[6] 468 [6]. SIGNED by the author in black marker to title page. Publisher's black cloth with white titles to spine, and orange endpapers. With the dust-jacket designed by Stuart Wilson, priced at £14.99, and repriced with a hand-written sticker. A fine, as-new copy, with a Topping & Company 'Signed First Edition' wrap-around band. A novel about Indian migrant workers in Britain, shortlisted for the 2015 Booker Prize.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1942. FINE CONDITION, a later edition. Quarto, pp.[x]; 400; [4], blank. Publisher's illustrated cloth with top-edge red, pictorial endpapers, in original card box with colour plate illustration laid down to lid. Book is fine, box is edgeworn with a few neat repairs. A nicely presented copy of this Pulitzer Prize winner, the basis for the 1946 film starring Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman.

London: Methuen and Co, 1919. [Poetry] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp. xii; [2]; 29; [1]. Publisher's red cloth lettered in gilt to spine, gilt top edge of textblock, untrimmed edges. Ex-libris stamp front-paste down, toning to edges of textblock, wearing of gilt along top edge of textblock, sunning to spine, bumping to spine and corners. Very good. Rudyard Kipling was a poet, novelist, short story writer, and journalist. In 1907, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. This poetry collection was built between the end of the Boer War and the aftermath of World War I.

London: John Lane, the Bodley Head, 1897. [Aesthetic Literature] FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (21 x 17cm), pp.316 [16]. With 18 black and white plates by various artists, including the Scottish painter D.Y. Cameron, each with a tissue-guard. Publisher's yellow cloth with titles and decoration in black. All edges untrimmed. Internally clean with some toning to endpapers. A few leaves poorly opened. A large contemporary library label to rear board. Spine browned, with moderate general wear and a 1cm split to head. Very good. The last of 13 volumes in this era-defining series, combining short stories, poetry, essays, reviews, and contemporary art. This issue features 'The Blessed' by Yeats.

Lippincott's Magazine. 1915. First appearance in print, bound from the parts. 8vo. Attractively bound in recent half green morocco leather with gilt titles to spine, black title label. Green cloth boards and plain endpapers. Near fine. Bound from the parts extracted from the 1915 issues of Lippincott's Magazine predating the first US edition in book form, the first appearance of one of Mr. Rohmer's more melodramatic stories, which for the man who created Fu-Manchu, master of the Si-Fan, is saying something. As far as he was concerned if it didn't have an opium den in there somewhere it just wasn't a story. Bleiler; Checklist of Fantastic Literature [1972].

Illustrated throughout the text with drawings in black and white. Binding lightly rubbed and marked. Lovely colour plate illustrations, internally clean. Very good indeed.

New York: Random House. 1958. First Edition; slim Quarto. Publisher's green and blue illustrated boards, with matching dust jacket. Titles in black and white to upper board and spine. Beautifully illustrated throughout by the author, including endpapers. Binding a little rubbed to extremities. Dust jacket showing light rubbing, frayed to corners and spine tips with a 1cm square loss at foot; minimal marking. Very good indeed.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1975. [Spy thriller] UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY of the FIRST EDITION. Octavo (23 x 15cm), pp.224. Bound in salmon-coloured printed wraps, with oversize proof-only dust-wrapper, which curiously lists the provisional publication date as June 12th 1973. The actual release date was January 1975 (this date being printed on the binding). The jacket artwork is by Raymond Hawkey, who designed the classic 1960s James Bond paperbacks for Pan Books. Cheap paper toned, else a fine book, oversized jacket worn to unsupported areas, some small chips to spine ends. Very good indeed. With comparisons to Graham Greene and Ian Fleming, Deighton first arrived on the shady scene in 1962 and was described by Julian Symons as 'the poet of the spy story'. Illustrated cover/first sheet "Have You Seen A Horizon Lately?". Includes the two-page article 'Some Notes on the Lisson Gallery Show' penned by Yoko Ono. Lightly handled, rust to staples else fine. Housed in a vintage card wallet/folder with pencil title. A slight, yet exceptionally scarce item dating from the very early stages of the Lennon-Ono creative partnership (and possibly prior to their romantic relationship). This the only copy we have seen. Original visitor's information sheets for Yoko Ono's show at Lisson Galley, Marylebone, produced by her first husband Tony Cox, and featuring some collaborations with her show sponsor John Lennon. Publisher's hardback yellow cloth binding blocked in two colours, red top edge, red endpapers, pictorial dust-jacket priced at $4.50. A clean, near fine copy, which is slightly toned to the spine. These later printings are far less common than the first. From the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil ownership within). His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert A12b (5).

New York, NY: New American Library, 1964. [Spy Fiction] NAL Book Club Edition, BINDING B. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.240; [4], blank. Publisher's hardback yellow cloth binding blocked in red, red top edge, white endpapers, pictorial dust-jacket. Binding B is blocked in red only, with plain endpapers (not red) and has the matte version of the jacket. It is also much thinner than 'A'. Book is fine, jacket very good with a cup ring mark to cover, some toning to spine. Shows well. Uncommon. Not to be confused with the Uniform books club edition the following year, which is more prevalent. See Gilbert A12b(7).

With 'First Published March 1964' on the copyright page, being the rarer of the two First Printing states (Gilbert). Publisher's dark grey cloth-effect paper over boards with silver titles to spine and Japanese characters in gilt to upper, bamboo patterned endpapers, pictorial dust-wrapper by Richard Chopping priced at 16s. A clean, fine copy of the book in a near fine jacket which has gentle toning to the spine panel and a closed tear at the crown. One of a selection of titles by Ian Fleming, uniformly cased in harlequin colours, comprising sheets from the Ian Fleming Centenary Edition in an elegant new hardback binding for 2022. James Bond's dangerous Japanese assignment is one of the most critically-acclaimed of the series.
