Philadelphia: Lindsay and Blakiston, 1850. Hardcover. Good. 4.5 x 6 inches, 64 pp, in original blind-stamped red boards with gilt title. Hand-colored frontispiece. Light soiling and general wear to boards, lacking front free endpaper. Penciled gift inscription on front flyleaf and poem on rear free endpaper (both likely contemporary), scattered foxing. The Preface conveniently provides the moral of the story: "We frequently find that the greatest enemies we have to encounter are our evil inclinations; but if we take as much pains to eradicate our prominent faults as the hero of this little story, our efforts will be crowned with similar success." The author published several other instructive tales for children.
