In the 1977 World Series, the New York Yankees defeated the LA Dodgers in six games, avenging their World Series loss to the Cincinnati Reds the previous year. When Reggie Jackson came to the Yankees at the beginning of the 1977 season, he made the confident and prophetic statement, "I didn't come to New York to be a star, I brought my star with me."
