Caldwell, ID: The Caxton Printers, Ltd, 1949. First edition. 24x17cm, 166pp. Introduction by William Saroyan. Review copy with slip from the publisher laid in. Orange cloth lettered in black in illustrated jacket. A near fine copy with some smudging to spine and foxing along upper edge of page block. Jacket very good with toning and a scuff to spine, some edge wear, and foxing to rear panel. Scarce review copy of the first published work of fiction by a Japanese American writer in English. The collection consists of a group of interconnected stories set in Toshio Mori's (1910-1980) home of pre-WWII Oakland, CA. The book was originally set to be published in 1942, however Mori was interned at Topaz War Relocation Center in Utah due to Roosevelts executive order 9066. Even after his release three years later, publication was pushed back due to the anti-Asian sentiment following the war. Finally in 1949, the collection was published. Mori received favorable reviews as a writer, but the book…

The two prints matted together and suitable for framing. Fine condition with a couple minor blemishes to matting. Stunning aquatint etching by the California artist, Harold Doolittle (1883-1974), of Yosemite's Half Dome. Doolittle was also a printmaker, his work here on display in the beautiful printing of Muir's quotation from his unpublished journals, 1938. Description:
Chicago: College Humor, 1927. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good. Very unique and interesting promotional book sent by College Humor magazine to advertisers and agencies in 1927 promoting the magazine, which was first published in 1920. This book was owned by Charles Wadsworth Camp, perhaps most well known as the father of Madeleine L'Engle, but an author in his own right. Laid in is a typed form letter from the advertising director, which was once mounted to the first blank page, asking the recipient (agencies) what would they give today to talk to themselves at twenty. It goes on to explain the appeal of the magazine to college youth of the time, and extol their great buying power and influence. The letter is signed by a very important individual, H. N. Swanson, first editor of the magazine and agent of F. Scott Fitzgerald and others. He writes a short note to camp at the bottom of the letter asking if he might send in something new. The book itself contains snippets of stories, art, and other works…
