Vol. 1: pp. 259, tissue-guarded frontispice of the completed bridge, richly illustrated with black & white photo reproduction, drawings, plans, math equations, etc. Green cloth, gilt cover and spine title. Covers scuffed and rubbed. Vol. 2: PLATES TO ACCOMPANY VOLUME I OF THE REPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT BOARD OF ENGINEERS. 111 plates, most folding, of plans, graphs, and architectural designs. Green cloth, gilt cover and spine title. Covers lightly scuffed and rubbed. Overall, a very good set. (Heavy item, extra shipping will be required.) "[The Bridge's] centre span of 549 metres (1800 ft) remains the longest cantilevered bridge span in the world and is considered a major engineering feat." In 1882 a charter to construct the bridge was obtained. It was not completed until 1919. During that time the structure collapsed - twice, claiming the lives of 88 workers. . First Edition.
