Illustrated with 16 wood engraved plates, illustrated throughout. Original decorated cloth, expertly rebacked; some light foxing throughout. Bookplate of Sturgis Library, Barnstable, Massachusetts, with red ink stamp on all the plates. One of the earliest works in English to provide information on the methods practiced by medieval illuminators, with an emphasis on their artistic skills, design motifs, tools, paper, vellum and the composition of the pigments used to decorate the manuscripts. Standard work, a working copy. (318).
