About This Item
The famed White Sox second baseman was named the American League's "Most Valuable Player" in 1959 and held a .288 lifetime batting average; he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997. PS (newsprint), 3¼" X 6", n.p., n.y. Very good. Faint, even age toning; inoffensive darkening at corners (from long-ago tape contact). Newspaper photograph, undated but likely a "Chicago Tribune" October 1959 scene from the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Caption below image reads: "Nellie Fox, White Sox second baseman, getting off throw to first base after eliminating Junior Gilliam to complete double play on Charlie Neal in eighth inning." Near the top, Fox signs boldly in blue ballpoint. A scarce, handsome item. Fox died of skin cancer at age 47, making his signature on an appropriate item such as this quite desirable.
