About This Item
This American naval commander, awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1933, gained fame in 1898 when he sunk the "Merrimac" during a naval maneuver in a channel at Santiago, Cuba; from 1907 to 1915 he served as a representative from Alabama. Exceptionally bold and attractive "Compliments of / Richmond Pearson Hobson / with apologies for delay -- / Hong Kong, April 21, 1900" in brown ink, heavy stock 3½" X 2½" card. Very good. Mild age toning; faint mounting traces at a couple corners. A choice example signed near the height of his fame. With original envelope, cancelled in the Philippines on 22 May 1900.
