Spectacular full colour facsimile edition( printed in black, red and blue script) of the Phillips Manuscript  and the Pepys manuscript. Facsimile of the original manuscript, printed in red, blue and black script, bound in full calf. The two manuscripts, at one time, comprised a single manuscript - Caxton manuscript of 1480, but the fortunes of time parted them.The Phillipps ( Sir John Phillipps copy books 1-9)  was re-discovered in 1964.The Pepys (books 10-15)reproduces the manuscript which was left to Magdalene College by Samuel Pepys in his will dated 1703. The pair of long separated manuscripts were, at long last,  re-united in this striking presentation.Folio (12" x 8.25"). Bound in full  calfskin by the Wigmore Bindery, reproducing the original binding of the Pepys Manuscript. Elaborate gilt device to front covers. Gilt ruled spine compartments with elaborate gilt tooled motifs. Gilt tooled calf labels. Presented in a original slipcase. Synopsis

The Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Ovid is a narrative poem in fifteen books that describes the creation and history of the world. Completed in 8 AD, it has remained one of the most popular works of mythology, being the Classical work best known to medieval writers and thus having a great deal of influence on medieval poetry.
