Important but little known signed Crusade Bull concerning the Spanish colonial territories for the years 1818-1819, titled Rula de vivos para los Reynos de Indias. The present copy is signed by the Spanish comisario general de Cruzada (general commissioner of the Crusade) Francisco Yáñez Bahamonde. The commissioner held the highest position in the Consejo y Comisaría General de Cruzada, which managed the income from the overseas territories of the Spanish Crown and its use in the war against non-Christians. The office also managed the publication of books.
The present bull declares the new rules and regulations that all Christians had to follow in the Spanish Indies. These rules regulated the social, political, religious, and economic life. It is issued by Pope Pius VII, the head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States. In spite of the great impact this document had on the daily life of many, it is not well know: we traced no copies in bibliographies even though similar documents must have been made for every year or multiple years in which the Crusade commission was active.

Condition: rubber stamp dated 1822 to lower margin. Central fold, some browning.
