About This Item
Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1939. Second Buff script for the 1939 film, here under the working title "Ruler of the Seas." Paramount "File Copy" and "Master File" stamps on front wrapper. Script divided into sequences, as was customary for the period.
Inspired by the success of "Lloyds of London" (1936), Paramount made a series of million-dollar "spectacles" revolving around the history of companies. Based on the history of the British Cunard Line, the story of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross the North Atlantic from Britain to the US.
Featuring the writer and director of the MGM hit "Mutiny on the Bounty" (1939), Talbot Jennings and Frank Lloyd, respectively.
Self wrappers, front wrapper dated April 10, 1939, noted as 2ND BUFF SCRIPT, rubber-stamped production No. 1540. 124 leaves, with last page of text numbered U-14. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, with chip on upper left of title page, bound with three gold brads.
