About This Item

Cannes, France: N.p., 1964. Original souvenir programs and film credits material showcasing some of the films from the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. It was this festival, the seventeenth one to be held, that the award name was changed from the Palme d'Or to the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, the name used until 1974 when it returned to its former title. French and English language.

Films represented in the collection include George Roy Hill's "The World of Henry Orient," Gianfranco Mingozzi's "I mali mestieri" (1963 documentary of the city of Palermo), Gyula Macskassy and Gyorgy Varnai's "1, 2, 3..." (Hungarian short film on mathematics), Nobuko Shibuya's Grand Prix award winning "The Price of Victory" (Japanese volleyball documentary), Glauber Rocha's "Black God, White Devil" (a Brazilian Western). Also included is a credit sheet detailing a special showing of "Naissance du Cinema," a documentary about Louis Lumiere, held in the Grand Hall at the festival, presented on the centennial of Lumiere's birth.
