About This Item
Paris: Office Catholique Francais du Cinema, 1961. Original French invitation from the 1961 awards ceremony for the Grand Prix de L'O.C.F.C. (Office Catholique Francais du Cinema), honoring director René Clair "pour l'ensemble de son oeuvre" (For all of his work). The invitation credits officials at the office, orators, date and location of the event, with a laid-in RSVP postcard addressed to the office in Paris, with a "sower" stamp, one of France's most common stamps at the time.
Among the awards Clair received, little is known of this one. He directed several of the best-known French silent films of the 1920s, including "The Phantom of the Moulin-Rouge" (1925) and "The Imaginary Voyage" (1926), was awarded the Grand Prix du Cinéma Français (1953), and was elected to the Académie Française (1960), the year of his film "Love and the Frenchwoman." By the time of this event he was presumably shooting "Tout l'or du monde" (1961), the film being released in November.
Single sheet folded once, 6.25 x 8 inches, printed verso. Laid-in RSVP postcard 4.5 x 6.75 inches, printed recto and verso. Near Fine overall.
