Greusel, John Hubert. "The Poor Devil" a Memory of Robert Reitzel.
An original Labadie Booklet, Detroit: the Labadie Shop, 1909. 13 cm x 8.5 cm, green paper wrapper, which appears to be reused double thickness product advertising, three-hole oriental stab-stitch. [1 folded blank; ii; 14 pages; ii; concluding blank]. This tribute was "Written by John Hubert Greusel, and reprinted into this Booklet from The Detroit News-Tribune of Sept. 16, 1900." The text is followed by a five-verse ode by Jo Labadie to Reitzel. Sold with a vintage silver gelatin vintage photograph of Reitzel holding a cat. Both book and photo are fine. Robert Reitzel published a weekly newspaper, Der Arme Teufel, which ceased publication for lack of support. Reitzel hinted he knew who the bomber was at the Chicago Haymarket Massacre, May 4, 1886.
