Spring Prairie WT 1845 stampless travel letter mailed back home to Vernon Center, NY by Thompson family - 1845

This is an excerpt from the letter written by the Thompsons who had moved to Spring Prairie Wisconsin Territory in 1845
There are actually three letters mailed together, from Earl, Reuben and Eleanor Thompson, to relatives in Vernon Center, N.Y. Dated August 31, 1845. They were in Walworth County, Wisconsin Territory (one states "Lafayette Walworth"). News of farming success ("crops are very good in this country") and the trip to Wisconsin ("We started..the 9th of July it was very warm whilst we were on the road we traveled 17 days layd by a day and arrived at our present home the 30th of July. The expence of traveling with ones own team is much the cheapest. We made our wagon our home when moving carried our own provision ...I cannot determine as yet how I shall like the country I think it is a fertile soil and encouraging for farmers but in a new country there are always many privations..." It was apparently mailed from `Spring Prairie, W.T." on Sept. 16th. One large piece of paper, folded, the main fold separating top three inches.
