About This Item

New York: Hesseltine-Bookman-Seff, 1966. Archive including a Draft script and a Master Copy script for the 1966 play by Herman Raucher. Undated script has three small clippings taken from the title page, and two annotations in manuscript ink in the script, noting editorial revisions. Script dated 9/25/66 bears one annotation in manuscript ink on the title page, noting copy No. 10.

Raucher's play opened its pre-Broadway tryout at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston from December 26, 1966 through January 7, 1967, starring David Kossoff, George S. Irving and Pat Englund, directed by Harvey Medlinsky and produced by Jerry Gershwin and Elliott Kastner. It had been slated for Broadway but apparently folded in tryout.

From the estate of film producer Elliott Kastner, whose best known credits include "The Long Goodbye" (Robert Altman, 1973), "The Missouri Breaks" (Arthur Penn, 1976), and "Heat" (Michael Mann, 1996).

Herman Raucher, best known for his autobiographical screenplay for Robert Mulligan's 1971 film "Summer of '42," wrote, in 1966, the quick-witted and clever comedic three-act play "Two Weeks Somewhere Else," which centers around Maimonides Cohen, who, as described in the play, "... is an unusual man. Though appearing bent and weary, HE is actually the possessor of vast energy. HE has tremendous verve; there is a bounce to his gait. HE looks as though HE might be clumsy but the opposite is true. There is a resiliency to the man and a never-ending resourcefulness. HE is a Jewish 'Everyman' and takes life as it comes, with a shrug, a smile, and a hopeful solution."
