Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1919 – 2021)

Lawrence Monsanto Ferlinghetti is an American Beat poet, painter, and co-founder of City Lights Booksellers & PublisHers in San Francisco, California.

He turned 100 years old on March 24, 2019.

Ferlinghetti is best known for his first collection of poems "A Coney Island of the Mind" from 1958. He was arrested in 1957 for publishing Allen Ginsberg's Howl at City Lights, which resulted in a lengthy First Amendment trial.
