(Vanderbijlpark: Johan Oosthuizen, 1999). 202 x 148 mm; pictorial wraps; pp. (viii) + 112; maps (including folding); black-and-white photographs. Fine condition. Diaries of Andrew Smit, who was captured in 1900 and sent to Bermuda as a prisoner-of-war. After the Anglo-Boer War ended in 1902, he refused to sign an oath of allegiance to the British government, and accordingly was not released until 1904. The original diaries were in Dutch, the text of this book is an Afrikaans translation with notes. .
