About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1981. First edition. First printing of Van Allsburg's most chaotic book, and winner of the Caldecott Medal. The story of two children playing a game with very high stakes indeed, adapted into a popular film that launched a subsequent movie and television franchises. Here Van Allsburg captures the slumbering menace of household spaces in eerie tones of grey. 9.75'' x 11''. Original green cloth lettered in bronze. In original unclipped ($9.95) color pictorial dust jacket. Tan endpapers. Illustrated with full-page black-and-white images facing each page of text. [32] pages. Some foxing to first couple leaves and text block edges. Cloth with very faint shadows of tape, now removed. (Apparently married) jacket beautiful, with only trace edgewear.

Synopsis

Jumanji is the title of a 1981 children's illustrated short story written and illustrated by the American author Chris Van Allsburg. It was made into a 1995 film of the same name. Both the book and the movie are about a magical board game that implements real animals and other jungle elements as the players are playing the game. The troubles which the players have to overcome appear in real life, not only in the board game.
