(Subject: Colonial & Other Wars ) An account of the epic siege of Ladysmith, from October, 1899 to March, 1900 during the Boer War. The Boers had surrounded Ladysmith and British commander, Lieutenant General Sir George White ordered a sortie by his entire force to capture the Boer artillery. The result was the disastrous Battle in which the British were driven back into the town having lost 1,200 men killed, wounded or captured. Ladysmith was then besieged for 118 days until it was relieved by General Sir Redvers Buller's forces on 28th February.
