Housed in a paper folder and clamping black vinyl album case in very good condition.. A collection of 52 original silver gelatin prints, mostly 8"X10", documenting health, agriculture, infrastructure, and industry in Iran during the era of Mohammad Reza Shah. Two prints are are credited to Marc Riboud, among other photographers, including Tony Chapelle, Alice Schalek, Joe Covello, Mary Hill, and Max Winter. Also included in the album are four anti-Shah satirical cartoons clipped from American newspapers circa the 1950s, and two small maps of Iran from 1962. The spirit of the photographs is one of modernization and globalization among artifacts of an ancient civilization. However, the accompanying satirical cartoons, which mock the Shah for his dependence on foreign aid, suggest something of the political crisis brewing in the midst of such reinvention, hinting at the radical departure the country would take by the end of the '70s.
