ASHEVILLE, NC - September 30th, 2005 -, an online marketplace for used, rare, and out-of-print books, announced today that they have founded an independent, non-profit corporation called Biblio Works Foundation, Inc. The mission of BiblioWorks is to provide communities in need with the tools and resources to develop sustainable literacy and education programs.

BiblioWorks is a natural outgrowth of's mission of fostering the growth of the communities that the company serves. In 2004, Biblio partnered with its booksellers and the people of Bolivia to construct a library for the impoverished mountain pueblo of Morado K'asa. The library opened to the public in February 2005 and is now being actively used and maintained by the community. Energized by the success of this project, management began work in March of this year to create a charitable organization to continue this type of work.

BiblioWorks is a newly formed non-profit organization dedicated to the simple principle that literacy and education are critical components for the creation and vitality of sustainable communities. The mission of BiblioWorks is to provide communities in need with tools and resources to develop sustainable literacy and education programs. These resources will be provided through direct funding to community non-governmental organizations and through book and materials donations to schools, libraries, and cultural institutions. BiblioWorks will be focusing on communities in South America, and for the short term, specifically in rural Bolivia.
