The very rare one of 250 handmade Large Paper copies for Britain in red/brown buckram, with another 25 produced for America with illustrations and headpieces as china paper proofs laid down of the famous Peacock Edition. Gilson E78, All 160 lovely illustrations have been tipped in and laid down onto the pages instead of direct printing as normally found in the trade editions. This edition rarely turns up but to find it in the original publishers cloth is a very rare find indeed. The first we have come across in trade. Most of the limited edition were rebound at a much later date in leather. The famous "Peacock edition" of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice". Often regarded as the most beautifully produced of Jane Austen's classic works . Over 160 illustrations by the formost illustrator of the time Hugh Thomson. Book is very good and quite bright. Spine lightened and gilt dull. Light edge rubbing. Cloth lightly marked and lightened in places. Small repaired 1cm area to front board bottom edge. Contents good. Text block tight.
