1853 Life of Blessed Virgin Mary Orsini English Catholic Ireland IllustratedA beautiful, rare English edition of Orsini's 'Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary.' This fine work of Catholic literature was translated out of the original French into English and is "a labor of love for a Catholic to celebrate the praises and publish the renown of our most dear Mother." Called a 'Superb Work' by the Lambruschini 'Treatise on the Immaculate Conception', this work was written to honor the Virgin Mary and hold her in the highest regard. Translated by Mrs. J Sadlier, this work "follows the course of the universal devotion wherewith the Church has honored, and does still honor, this Queen of angels and of men. It embodies the Eastern traditions concerning her with the conclusive testimony of the Fathers; the little which is related of her in… Read More

Description:
1860 Arctic Boat Journey Isaac Hayes Exploration 2nd Grinnell Expedition KANE

Henry Grinnell's second arctic expedition was a 19th-century Elisha Kent Kane voyage which, in 1853, set out to find John Franklin and his lost expedition. Kane, along with other crew on the USS Advance never found Franklin but were able to gather a lot of information about people, geography, and natural history of the Arctic region, a relatively unknown region of the world. The discoveries found on this voyage include the Humboldt Glacier, Kennedy Channel, the Kane Basin, and reaching the farthest north of any exploration at the time.

Expedition surgeon Isaac Hayes published his own account of the voyage, published under the title "An Arctic Boat Journey".
