1864 Ingoldsby Legends Occult Esoteric Tenniel Leech Cruikshank Illustrated ART

"ABRACADABRA!"

A beautiful and attractive 1864 printing of the famous "Ingoldsby Legends." This collection of myths, ghost stories, and poetry was written by R.H. Barham, who is better known by his penname, Thomas Ingoldsby. These legends were extremely popular from their inception in 1837, but this edition was illustrated with 60 George Cruikshank illustrations! While this collection is less popular today than it was in the 19th-century, it does include aspects that are still recognizable – the magic command "Abracadabra" and a version of the children's song Bingo!

This 1864 edition includes 60 illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech, and John Tenniel!

1844 1st ENGLISH ed Eugene Sue The Wandering Jew Mystery Literature Poverty 3v

Eugene Sue was a 19th-century French novelist known for being one of the first French authors to fuse characters from different social classes making his work popular amongst all readers, not just upper or lower classes. His books, such as 'Mysteries in Paris' and 'The Wandering
Jew' depicted various aspects of underclass society – rampant disease, poverty – and helped establish the 'city mysteries' literary genre.

Field's father, Eugene Field (1850-1895), was a newspaper columnist, poet, and book collector. After his death, Eugene Field's book collection passed on to his son.
