Description:
1842 William Wilberforce Practical View + Memoir England Slavery Slave Abolition
William Wilberforce was an 18th-century British politician who is best remembered for his role in helping abolish slave trade in the western world. His campaign to abolish slavery led to the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833, which inspired author Thomas Price to publish a memoir highlighting Wilberforce's role in the slavery abolition.
This 1842 printing of Wilberforce's "Practical View of the Prevailing Religious System" was published in London by Scott and Webster. At the end of the 18th-century Wilberforce was a staunch supporter of the evangelistic efforts of the Church of England and to this, he published this exposition on the New Testament. 'Practical View' offered realistic practices for Protestants and charged Great Britain to turn from immorality and return to Christianity. In addition to 'Practical View', this book contains Wilberforce's 'Memoir'.

"Nothing makes a man so adventurous as an empty pocket."
― Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The best-known and oft-considered greatest French writer is unarguably Victor Hugo. His romance novels and stories have withstood the test of language and time. One of Hugo's most popular stories is 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame'; a tale of a gypsy who catches the hearts of men including a hunchback named Quasimodo. This work has been transformed into dozens of stage, film, and television adaptations.

This 1836 three-volume, first illustrated edition includes 12 steel engravings and is considered to be 'more readable' than the one-volume edition of the same year.

1886 ISRAEL 1ed Lebanon Damascus Jordan Jerusalem Syria PALESTINE Holy Land MAPS
"Lebanon, Damascus and Beyond Jordan" is the third installment in William McClure Thomson's series, "The Land and the Book," which paints a vivid picture of the Holy Land as referenced in the Bible. Following 25 years as an American Christian missionary, Thomson provides a rich exploration of the Middle East, offering context to Biblical tales and showcasing the sites and places described in them. In this particular volume, Thomson shifts his focus from the regions west of the Jordan, as covered in his previous works, to areas like Lebanon, Damascus, and regions further east. These places, while not strictly within the Land of Promise, were historically and culturally intertwined with it. Many of these areas were home to the Biblical patriarchs, while others became the first lands conquered by the ancient Hebrews.
This edition is enriched with 147 total illustrations that include maps, full-page plates, and over 100… Read More
