NOTE: DAMAGED and Incomplete; see specifics below: Folio, approximately 15.75" x 9.75". Half-bound red calf over buckram. Gilt labeling to spine ("Cook's Voyages"; "Hogg"; "Bancroft Library"). Fabulously wild marbling to endpapers with thousands of tiny gilt flecks throughout. Occasional browning and foxing; most pagesclean and bright. Illustrated with lovely copperplate etchings, maps, elevations, charts, About 155 other copperplate engravings, the majority of which are full-page. Solidly bound.
MISSING: Title page, frontis engraving of Captain Cook, Image of Death of Captain Cook (p. 587); 4-page (undated) list of Subscribers. NOTE that the Folding Map, pasted onto a new sheet at the beginning, is missing about 20%. ESTC: T222766. In addition to Captain Cook's first, second and third voyages, this massive work includes accounts of the voyages of Sir Francis Drake, Lord Anson, Philip Carteret, Samuel Wallis, John Byron and Lord Mulgrave. Originally published in parts -- another dealer cites "80, six-penny numbers", this is the one-volume edition entitled (instead of "NEW", "A Genuine and Complete History..."
