Newcastle: Longman and Rees, 1803. Third edition. Two volumes I: 346pp.; II: 400pp.. Small quarto (6" x 10"), full polished calf with four raised bands, recent black and brown gilt labels, and with blind devices in three panels. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers, Turn-ins are decorated in blind. Early nineteenth century nameplate of Doune. Edges lightly worn. Covers scuffed. Minor occasional foxing. Volume one has been re-backed with the original spine. Labels are recent on both volumes. This edition has 15 additional illustrations as well as some text revisions. Beautiful wood engravings by Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) throughout. Volume I is the land birds, and volume II is the water birds.

Albany: State of New York, 1897. First Edition. cloth. Good +. Denton et al.. Quarto (8.5" x 11"), blue-grey clcoth with pictorial cover in black ink. 521pp. 9 full page chromolithographs of fish by Denton, and one of shells and starfish. Numerous photographs in black and white of camps and activities, some of Raquette Lake. Charts and statistics. The hinges are becoming weak, and the back hinge exposes the mull. Plates are all clean and bright. The "Pike Perch" plate has a 1/2" closed tear at the bottom center margin. Denton's signature on this plate only partially printed in the left margin. This copy was presented to the owner by one of the commissioners of that year, Charles H. Babcock, according to his stamp.

Moire endpapers. 182 pp. with bibliography and index. Very good or better in a very good slipcase which is a little faded near the fore-edge on one side. Limited to 1000 copies, of which this is copy number 257. This Special Centennial Edition was done to commemorate the 100th anniversery of the introduction of the Brown Trout to America. The third title in the Angling Heritage Collection prepared for the National Sporting Fraternity Limited. Authorized and signed by the author and the president of the NSFL. Foreword by Ernest Schweibert. Illustrations by Wayne Trimm. This copy has a letter laid in from the recipient of the book from Ray Smith to whom the book was presented by Heacox. 1856. Second royal octavo edition. Very good +. The royal octavo edition of Birds of America as first published in 1840-44, and was followed by several more editions. This plate is from the second edition, published in 1856, distinct for the colored backgrounds. They are also a little different in that one species is pictured rather than a grouping of birds. This work was done to make Audubon's prints, highly in demand, more affordable for the general public. These hand colored lithographs were printed by J. T. Bowen. Showing the male and female.
