Description:
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1934. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Lightly worn cloth, near fine in an attractive, first issue dustwrapper with an unfaded spine and some minor repair and restoration at the extremities. Fitzgerald had all but fallen off the map when this, his last completed novel, was issued. A portrait of expatriates on the French Riviera, it was supposedly based on Gerald and Sara Murphy but is as likely based on the Fitzgeralds themselves. The 1962 film version by Henry King, the last of his many films adapted from literary novels, featured Jason Robards and Jennifer Jones. Housed in a custom clamshell case. A very nice copy of a desirable and very uncommon title, almost never encountered without fading to the spine. *Connolly 100*.

Description:
Hardcover. Very Good. A collection of clearly amateur nude photographs of one woman, circa 1947-1948. A large group of images of a woman, unidentified; anecdotally found in Philadelphia. One can safely speculate that they were taken by her husband or a regular companion, during several sessions in different rooms or locations, and involving various erotic scenarios, presumably over a year or more. The archive consists of:1. Photo album: Blank album with 70 mounted photographs. Mostly full or partial nudes, largely in a domestic setting, including in a bath tub, on a bed, on a couch, stripping, etc. Different sizes, different qualities in keeping with home development, most are very good. The album has clearly been pillaged or "curated" (whether by the subject or a subsequent owner is unclear) with a significant amount of images lacking (most of those, we think, might be represented in the slides and negatives that accompany the archive).2. Slides: 102 slides of the same subject in two metal slide… Read More

Description:
Hardcover. Very Good. Oblong octavo. 8.5" x 5.25". Flexible cloth blank book with attached cloth loop to hold a pencil (not present, but we can get you one if you need it). Some modest wear on the boards, two leaves detached and laid in, very good or better, internally near fine. Artist not stated, presumed from provenance to come from Paris in the late 1920s and early 1930s. An interesting and unusual sketchbook containing 75 pencil drawings. On the verso of most pages are 39 quickly sketched drawings of well-dressed Parisians sitting or perambulating through parks, very reminiscent of the subjects of Georges Seurat's painting "Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la Grande Jatte - 1884" ("A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte"). On the recto leaves are a total of 36 reasonably detailed and very well-accomplished drawings of couples engaged in many varieties of explicit sexual activity (a few include studies of details in the margins or are less detailed). In any event, it is clear… Read More

Description:
Toronto and Montreal: McClelland and Stewart Limited, 1965. Hardcover. Very Good. First Canadian edition. 312pp. Close textured orange paper-covered boards, with title and illustration printed in ivory and dark green. Some penciling on the white lettering on the front board and spine, a crease on the spine, a near very good copy without dustwrapper as issued. Published five years after the American and British editions, the Canadian edition of Lee's novel is something of an oddity, published as a school edition with a one-page note about the author and 15 pages of questions for discussion, writing, and reflection. Considerably less common than either of the aforementioned editions, and visually appealing as well.

(Jerusalem: Printed in Israel for The Olympia Press by Steimatzky's Agency, 1955. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. First Israeli edition, and the first hardcover edition (there was also a wrappered issue of the Israeli edition). Two volumes in one. Original blue leather-textured papercovered boards in dustwrapper. Offsetting to the front and rear endpapers as usual, small and light stain on rear fly leaf, else near fine in a modestly rubbed, very good dustwrapper with some tanning to the white portion of the spine and a few modest chips. The first hardcover edition; the true first edition was published in Paris in two wrappered volumes. Stamped with the number 1442 on the front flap, Nabokov bibliographer Michael Juliar believes all copies of the Israeli edition were numbered, both hardcover and wrappered. A very uncommon issue of a high spot of modern literature. Nabokov wrote the screenplay for the 1962 Stanley Kubrick film with James Mason, Shelley Winters, Peter Sellers, and Sue Lyon in the title… Read More

New-York: White, Gallaher, & White, 1829. Hardcover. Very Good. Second edition, revised and corrected. Tall octavo. 424, xliv pp. Publisher's legal sheep with morocco spine label gilt. Wear at the crown and extremities, some modest foxing in the text, but a tight and sound, pleasing very good copy. Inscribed by Emma Willard: "To Mr. Alexander from his friend The Author," followed by a contemporary re-gifting inscription: "Asa G. Alexander from his affect'e Uncle, Fr. Alexander. Oct. 11th, 1831" (our research indicates Asa G. Alexander of Killingly, Connecticut was either attending or was soon to attend Yale at the time of the inscription from his uncle, i.e. he is listed in the 1832 catalog of students; further evidence indicates he later became a teacher). Also contains an attractive later bookplate and pencil ownership signature, all neat and not distracting from the author's inscription. Emma Willard was an educational reformer who opened the Troy Female Seminary in 1814 which was the first… Read More
