Large 8vo, pp. 324, original gray textured cloth with leather lettering piece to spine, top edge gilt, others uncut; fine in slipcase. With later inscription from his sons presenting this volume to the Girdlers Company. Sir Harry Newton's fine library, which this volume catalogues, giving also details of their acquisition and other anecdotal observations, was auctioned at Dukes of Dorchester in 2007.

Upper joint of volume 1 cracked but firm. With the engraved armorial bookplates of Sir Robert Eden Bart (1717-1755). Rare. Authorship is sometimes attributed to Edmund Curll.

Folio, contemporary full blue morocco lettered in gilt on upper cover, “Fowke Medal 1910. R. E. 2nd Lieutenant J.W.J. Raikes R.E.” The Fowke medal awarded to the top student of the Clerk of Works course. Francis Fowke (1823-1865) the architect of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and a Captain in the Corps of Royal Engineers.

Very good. It was not until the following January that she addressed the Writer's Circle of the Institute of Journalists, the meeting chaired by Wilhelmina Stitch who afterwards hosted a dinner at Gatti's in her honour at which the menu consisted of dishes described in "Adam's Breed".

With all half-titles and general titles (these with vignette illustration) and individual titles to all 104-plays within, these also with vignette illustrations; other vignette illustrations within the text. Thirteen volumes 12 mo (5 x 3 inches), contemporary grained burgundy calf, double gilt rules to sides with floral corner ornaments, all edges gilt. Spines gilt lettered direct with the title of each play within. Headbands, joints, and corners rubbed but overall a very pleasing set; good, strong and attractive. Rare as a complete set and even more so in an attractive contemporary binding.

George Newnes, London, 1892. First edition, first issue. Illustrations. 8vo (9 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches), 317-pages. Original blue bevelled cloth blocked in gilt and black. All edges gilt. A little mostly marginal foxing, upper inner joint cracked and held on webbing. Headband bruised, spine a little dulled, several inner gutters cracked, some light dustmarking to binding. Overall very good. Free from inscriptions. First issue points being 'Violent' for Violet on p. 317, and no name on the street sign on the upper board.
