Richard Bentley. Hardback. 344pp+324pp. Novel. Half bound in red leather with red, blue and yellow marbled papers on boards and matching marbled endpapers. Raised bands to spines with two maroon leather labels and gilt titles to each volume. Gilt to top edge. Also includes substantial essay, 38pp., on Ferrier, and Ferrier's Recollections of visits to Ashestiel and Abbotsford (home of Sir Walter Scott). A note on the text: "Miss Ferrier's novels have, since their first appearance, suffered curtailment in all subsequent editions. The present edition is the first reprint since from the original editions, and contains the whole of the omissions in other reprints." attributed to GB, New Burlington Street, presumably George Bentley son of the publishing founder, and subsequent partner. Bumpus binding signed in gilt to lower margin inside both rear boards is presumed slightly later than the contents. Maroon labels are perhaps from an earlier binding. Includes Venetia, Coningsby, Edymion, Lothair, The Young Duke and Count Alarcos, Vivian Grey, Tancred, Sybil, Henrietta Temple, Contarini Fleming and the Rise of Iskander, and Alroy. Light brown cloth with gilt and black titles and decorations to spines, and dark blue and gilt cartouche to the front with gilt and blue border, and further gilt boarder to the edges of the front board. Each page has a red border line around the text. Title pages each with a different engraving showing an aspect of Disraeli's county house, Hughenden Manor, the lake, the terrace, the study, etc. Edward Buckton Lamb had done the remodelling of the house for Disraeli and his family. Very clean. Cloth is rather softened and a little worn to spine ends, some corners are slightly bumped. Some rubbing to corners. Just a little faded to spines. Text is clean. Bindings are sound. American Oriental Series, Volume 41. Hard to find. Light grey, thin card cover has some uneven tanning especially to the spine and unevenly to the front. Some creasing to spine. Binding is sound. Text is clean. Good+, sound copy . Paperback. 1956.

London:: Smith, Elder and Co.,. Hardback. Full tree calf binding with raised bands to spine, gilt titles to spine and gilt decorated compartments. Decorative gilt twisted border to both boards. Gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers and marbled to all page edges. Illustrated by Richard Doyle. The narrator is Arthur Pendennis, the protagonist of Pendennis. Leather to spine is very slightly faded and there is a hint of rubbing to spine hinges which remain strong. Text is particularly clean and crisp. Very good copy . Hardback. 1903.

Printed on folded leaves; pagination in red; colophon to final leaf in red "designed, written out and illuminated by Alberto Sangorski" "the whole reproduced by the Graphic Engraving Company". With beautiful colour illumination throughout in strong jewel colours and heavy gilt, as well as fine decorative tracery to illustration edges and spaces. Alberto Sangorski (1862–1932) was accomplished calligrapher and illuminator. Decorated cream paper covered boards with printed in red to the upper board with decorative boards and repeated design of alpha and omega with flowers, circles, stars of David, Celtic knot work and IHS monogram, red titles to spine. Binding is slightly browned at the spine and edges, with a few minor marks, light rubbing to corners, shelf wear to the spine ends. Some faint marginal ink transfer and finger marks. Very prettily quarter bound in vellum with dark pink and gold art nouveau flower and leaf decorations to spine and dark pink cloth to boards. gilt to top edge. xiv, 749pp. No date but prize label dated 1909. Pale gold cloth ribbon bookmark. Vellum is in excellent condition to surface and to spine hinges, and with bright decoration but somewhat darkened and dust marked and there is some dust marking to edge of cloth and faint dark marks to the boards. Very tiny surface nick to the dark pink title panel to the spine. Text is clean. Binding is sound. Book mark is a little fragile. Text is clean. Binding is sound. Good+, sound copy . Hardback.

London:: A. Fullarton and Co.,. Hardback. Half bound in dark blue leather. Illustrated with 20 engravings from drawings by Clarkson Stanfield, Esq, R.A. Two novellas originally published just nine years earlier. Raised bands and gilt titles to spine with the date 1845 to the tail of the spine. Maroon, beige and light blue marbled papers to boards. Gilt to all edges. Marbled endpapers. Leather is somewhat scuffed to surface intermittently along the spine joints, to the leather corners and in just a couple of places to the raised bands. Small area of exposed board to the tip of one corner. A little rubbed to edges. Leather remains sound to the joints, likewise inner hinges. Occasional foxing and brown blemishes, mostly minor, chiefly to margins, though some text and illustrations affected. Remains a readable and attractive copy. Good+, sound copy . Hardback. 1845.
