Raised bands to spines with two maroon leather labels and gilt titles to each volume. Gilt to top edge. Also includes substantial essay, 38pp., on Ferrier, and Ferrier's Recollections of visits to Ashestiel and Abbotsford (home of Sir Walter Scott). The present edition is the first reprint since from the original editions, and contains the whole of the omissions in other reprints." attributed to GB, New Burlington Street, presumably George Bentley son of the publishing founder, and subsequent partner. Bumpus binding signed in gilt to lower margin inside both rear boards is presumed slightly later than the contents. Maroon labels are perhaps from an earlier binding.
