Paris: The Black Sun Press, 1929. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine in glassine in a Good example of the fragile slipcase, missing one edge and with some fraying, in a Fine clamshell box. Quarto (9-/8" x 11-1/2") in stiff white printed wrappers printed in red and black in glassine dustwrapper and original gold foil slipcase, housed in a modern cloth clamshell box with a printed morocco spine label. Frontispiece portrait of MacLeish by Paul Emile Becat. Copy #32 of 50 copies (of a total edition of 100) on Japan vellum. Though not called for, this copy is SIGNED by the poet on the half-title page.

Archibald MacLeish was not only a well-known poet but also served as Librarian of Congress, appointed by Franklin Roosevelt, a position he used to reorganize and promote the institution. In addition to winning three Pulitzer Prizes, MacLeish was commissioned by the NEW YORK TIMES to write a poem to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing, which he entitled "Voyage to the Moon" and which appeared on the front page of the 21 July 1969 edition of the paper.
