Faber, London, 1959. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 4to. 135pp. Two-tone cloth lettered and ruled in gold at the spine. With a frontispiece and over 250 reproductions of Raverat's magnificent wood engravings, in the most part printed from the original blocks. With a list of titles and a bibliography. Endpapers lightly and partially browned. In virtually fine state, marred only by a handwritten slip pasted to the front endpaper noting, amongst other things, where and when a former owner purchased it. Housed in a very slightly dust marked example of the dust wrapper, non-price-clipped but with a single short closed tear and a hint of chafing to several extremities. A superb production..

Description:
Fantasy Press, Oxford, 1954. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition, second issue (incorporating a single minor textual correction to the poem 'Tamer and Hawk' a 't' added to the end of 'though' in the first line). Slim 8vo. 44pp. Yellow cloth lettered and ruled in red at the upper board. Cloth a little marked and handled. Endpapers really quite browned, yet otherwise extremely fresh internally. Twenty-five poems, the author's first substantial book (and the first hardcover publication issued by the Fantasy Press). The first and second states comprised only 305 copies in total and can be differentiated only by the textual correction (the publisher Oscar Mellor believed the two states could be identified by the slightly different shade of yellow cloth they were bound in, but Gunn's bibliographer Jack Hagstrom has suggested that this is probably not the case). No dust wrapper, as issued..

Description:
London and North Eastern Railway [1930] Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing), printed at the Curwen Press. Slim 8vo. 63pp. Stapled card wrappers, a little marked, handled and with some light corner creasing. With a magnificent colour title-page design by Edward Bawden, plus eight colour headpiece drawings, several colour headpiece decorations and numerous black and white decorations (headpieces and tailpieces) also by Bawden. The staples rusted. A short crease impacts the tips of the upper right corners of about half the leaves and with a small area of staining to the base of a single text leaf. A nice bright copy of an extremely uncommon item - a collection of essays on various aspects of the East Coast, published to attract tourists to the area, and beautifully illustrated by Bawden..

Description:
Eyre & Spottiswoode, London, 1951. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first UK edition (first printing) of the author's first book. 8vo. 499pp. Beige cloth lettered in red at the spine. Backstrip and upper edges of the boards lightly spotted. Endpapers partially browned and with some additional light spotting which also impacts several preliminary and (blank) concluding leaves. A very good copy in very good non-price-clipped pictorial dust wrapper designed by Stein, with just a touch of spotting and tanning, several tiny closed tears and several slivers of loss from the spine panel ends. First published by Harcourt Brace in the US in March 1950, this distinctly more uncommon UK edition followed a year later. The novel was not a success: it was trashed by a number of reviewers, Kerouac's royalties did not exceed his advance of $1,000 and it was six years before the publication of his next novel, 'On the Road'..

Description:
Strahan & Co. Publishers, London, 1871. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first collected edition. 12mo. Original green cloth with bevelled edges, the spine and upper boards gilt lettered and decorated, with blind-stamped decorations to the rear boards. All edges gilt. The cloth lightly marked in places, with some bruising to the spine ends. A touch of light very occasional spotting. The binding of volume eight cracked and splitting at the front hinge and most gatherings quite tender as a result. The half title and title page of volume six detached and laid-in, and five further volumes exhibit some tenderness to the front hinges and one a short tear to the upper gutter. A nice bright set, somewhat marred by the aforementioned binding issues, but really very crisp internally. The first collected edition of the author's complete and vastly influential fantasy output, comprising 'Within and Without' and 'A Hidden Life' (volume one), 'Poems', 'The Gospel… Read More
