This is a rare, finely bound edition, with top edge gilt, and marbled boards, professionally rebacked with corners tight. 72 facsimile woodcuts from antique editions. Clean and tight inside, a very nice copy. The paper is especially nice, without stains or browning..

Pages vii, 382 & ix, 477. Splendid light brown calf, with gilt scrolls & gilt frame border on the boards; raised bands, elaborate gilt decorated panels and deep red title labels on the spine. Three volumes, pages xliv, 304: 426: and 525. Half titles in vol 2 and 3. 3/4 calf with grey marbled boards. Burgundy title labels and black volume labels with bright gilt (probably later). Some edge wear, skillfully rebacked spines. Speckled page edges. 22 engraved plates, five folding, as called for. Clean and tight inside, no foxing, with book plates of Hon. Francis Howard. Mendelssohn I, 892, 889, 890: "His description is unilque for this period, as little inormation respecting these regions had been published up to this date". Continuation of the title, "Including a Journey to the Capital with Notices of the Natural History of the Country and of the Present Civilisation of the People". Pages xvii, 470. Original gilt figures and palm tree on the front cover, on dark blue cloth. The spine is unfaded, but a bit of edgewear. Binding protected in a clear, mylar dustjacket. Inside, some foxing to the first and last few leaves. Ellis was sent to Madagascar three times to investigate whether Christians were being maltreated. That investigation was not productive, as he was denied access to the capital, but it was the first widely read account of the island, and a thorough description of the society, customs, religion and natural history..

Contemporary green calf with gilt lines along the board borders, raised bands on the spines with elaborately decorated panels in gilt and maroon title labels, red volume labels with gilt still bright. This is a very complete account of trapping and hunting in the area north of Goteborg around Bohus. This is volume one of a projected two volumes, complete in itself, and subtitled, "The Ethnical Frontier of Lower Bengal with the Ancient Principalities of Beerbhoom and Bishenpore. Pages xvi, 475 with appendices. Original brick red cloth, neatly rebacked with the old spine cloth laid on top. Worn at the corners, but protected in a clear, mylar dustjacket. Ex-library, with library perforations on title page but no other indications. Inside, clean and tight with no foxing and new endpapers. William Wilson Hunter (1840-1900) wrote a good deal about India where he lived most of his adult life..

Very good original brown cloth with an oriental red design across the front. Some soiled and edgewear, with a dull gilt title on the spine. Inside, remarkably this copy has never been read. Some pages were uncut at the top or foreedge, and I have just cut them all. Very clean and tight, no foxing or stains. No prior owner marks. Pages (x including the half title), 365. Most entrepid travellers of this age profess to be enthralled or romantic in prose about their courage and what they have done. Not Mr. de Windt. Much on Siberia and Mongolia. Protected in a clear, mylar dustjacket. As with the first edition, only 750 copies were produced for this second edition. Thus, rather scarce..

Contemporary 3/4 brown calf, elaborate gilt spine panels and raised bands. Attractive and fresh marbled page edges, with matching boards and endpapers. A bit of wear at the edges, and crown slightly chipped. An handsome copy of the U.S. Navy's first foray into the Holy Land, over which young Lynch and his men hauled their boats with camels to the Sea of Galilee, then down the River Jordon to the Dead Sea. er. This copy has repairs on the verso of the map folds, and a few small chips at the edges. The expedition also visited Smyrna and Constantinople. Blackmer 1043 The official report of this Naval adventure was published in 1852. .

But a very clean, solid copy. A fine history of Syria and Palestine published for the Committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund. Memorial Edition. This was Burton's first excursion into East Africa, in which he almost got himself and his party killed. Wonderful, bright plates, as in the first edition except "The Fal" was not included in this edition. Pages xxxiv, 209 and (xii), 276 with index, plus 3 pages of publisher ads of Burton works at the end. Cloth bindings in remarkably nice condition, with bright gilt turbaned man and tent on boards and bright gilt titles on the spines. A beautiful set with no foxing, no stains and no prior owner marks.
